Teams finish regular season play

    Last Friday completed play for the regular high school softball and baseball season.
    The Katahdin Lady Cougars overtook host Ashland 15-9 behind Makayla Patterson’s two-run double, which keyed a five-run sixth inning erasing a 7-5 deficit.

     Patterson rapped three doubles and knocked in four runs, while Megan Merry also drove in four runs with a double and a single.
     Myah Smallwood went the distance to pick up the win.
    The Lady Cougars trailed 7-1 after the fourth before making their comeback.
    The Lee Academy Pandas edged Katahdin, 5-4 last Wednesday in baseball action.
    Lee went ahead 5-1 and the game was scoreless until the top of the seventh when Katahdin climbed back in with three runs.
    Spencer Anderson singled twice and drove in a run for the Cougars, while Kolby Gallagher accounted for Katahdin’s only run in the second on a solo blast.
    At Hodgdon, the Hawks pulled out a 14-10 win. The score between the Hawks and GHCA Eagles was tied at 6-all in the fourth before GHCA took a 8-6 lead in the fifth. The Eagles held a 10-9 lead until the Hawks came back in the top of the seventh to score five unearned runs with two outs.
    Hodgdon’s offense was powered by Dan McGillicuddy’s two-run homer in the second. He scored twice and drove in three runs, while Jake Tidd singled twice and scored twice.

     Chad Duff led the Eagles in his last high school game with two singles. He scored twice, while Jaron Gray also hit two singles. Isaiah Straubel and Ted Bowers each doubled.
    It was a tight game between Washburn and East Grand in Washburn last Wednesday, with the Beavers pulling out an 11-10 victory. East Grand led 10-5 until the Beavers rallied in the bottom of the seventh behind Nick Bragg’s two-run double, scoring six runs to steal the win.
    Dustin Morse led East Grand with a double, a single, an RBI and three runs scored, while Nick Gray doubled, singled and drove in two runs.
    At Fort Kent, the Shiretowners overpowered the Warriors, 11-3 behind Corey Woodworth’s two-run homer in the second to ignite Houlton’s offense. Josh Harvey doubled and singled to drive in three runs, while Ian Gervais singled twice and brought in a run for Houlton.
    The East Grand Lady Vikings defeated host Washburn last Wednesday, 18-4, as Kaitlyn Beaudoin fashioned a one-hitter and banged a grand slam in the third inning. She also had two singles for five RBIs. Elisha Farley singled twice for the winners.

    It was a back-and-forth game between visiting Hodgdon and the Greater Houlton Christian Academy, with the Lady Hawks pulling out a 15-14 victory.
    The game came down to the last out with the bases loaded. GHCA had an opportunity to take the win, but Hodgdon pitcher Kenzie York was able to get a line drive out for the win.
     Hodgdon’s Destiny Ellis doubled twice, singled twice and drove in three runs, Taylor McGary tripled, doubled and singled for three runs and Maya Gardiner singled twice.
    Olivia Lee led the Lady Eagles with three singles and two runs scored. Kiki Smart tripled, singled, scored twice and recorded eight strikeouts on the mound.
    The Katahdin Lady Cougars dropped host Lee Academy, 14-3, as Patterson doubled, singled and drove in two runs. Kali Rush and Dani Beth Cyr’s singled twice and drove in a run each, while Myah Smallwood had eight strikeouts.

    Fort Kent edged Houlton last week 4-3.
    The Lady Shires led 3-1 until the seventh when Fort Kent’s Mary Grace Morris hit a two-out single to left to drive in the runner from second to cap a three-run seventh-inning rally.
    Megan Hannigan hit a solo homer in the sixth for Houlton, along with Ashley Drew’s RBI single.
