Windham – William R. Bunnell, Sr., 86, of Oak Lane, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at a Portland hospital. He was born on November 20, 1921, in Ft. Fairfield, the son of Shirley and Ruth Kearney Bunnell.
William was educated in the Ft. Fairfield schools graduating from Ft. Fairfield High School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Marine Corp serving in WWII. William was a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono. He was an avid track and field athlete setting numerous records. William excellent in every sport he attempted including basketball, skiing, swimming and boxing which he continued through his college and military career. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. William spent many years at Cross Lake with family and friends. His ties to Cross Lake brought about a rich history for his entire family. William was an independent potato broker and produce buyer until his retirement. His work brought him to numerous locations which his family was an integral part of. He was married for 62 years to Natalie Parker. She predeceased him on February 17, 2008. William was also predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Jack Bunnell.
Survivors include his sons, Bill Bunnell, Jr. and his wife Vicki of Standish, Brent Bunnell and his wife Cindy of Maryville, TN; a daughter, Danna Fields and her husband Alan of Brunswick; a brother, Charles Bunnell of Belfast; a sister, Brenda Bunnell Brown of Yarmouth; granddaughter, Hanna Bunnell of Eddington; grandson, Bradford Bunnell and his wife, Shandy; and great-grandson, Keegan of Ft. Drum, NY; granddaughter, Jessica of Maryville, TN; granddaughter, Morgan of Brunswick; four step-grandchildren, Beth and Jim Solman of Maryville, TN and Lindsay and Abby Culberson of Standish; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham at 2 p.m.
