WATERVILLE – The 13-year-old Youth Basketball Organization of America girls’ basketball team finished up their season this past weekend in the Waterville area, going 1 and 1 with only five players. In their first game against a rough Maniacs team, the County made nine foul shots and six baskets to trail 23-21 at the half. In the second half, the team hit their shots, but their short numbers caught up with them and lead to the 55-45 loss. The County went 15 for 29 from the foul line. Amanda Hotham (Fort Fairfield) had 13 points, while Rachael Grew (Mars Hill) and Alexa Massey (Caribou) each had 12. Rebecca McDougall (C) added five points, and Katelyn Bubar (Woodland) had 3.
In game two against Central Maine Lighting, the team came together to take the lead, 25-7, at the half. The County pulled away for a 51-15 win. Hotham topped scoring with 17 points. Bubar and Massey shot for 10 points each. McDougall sank eight points, and Grew added six for the County. The girls shot 12 of 23 from the free throw line.
The County team ended their season with a record of 11-7.
