Officiating class begins Sept. 27

Road race slated at UM-Fort Kent
The University of Maine at Fort Kent athletic department will host a five-kilometer road race Saturday, Sept. 18 at the UMFK Sports Center as part of the university’s homecoming celebration and the Fort Kent community’s Scarecrow Festival.
The race time is 9 a.m. and the first 30 to register will receive a T-shirt. The fee is $10, with proceeds benefiting the athletic department. There will be four age divisions for both men and women. For more information, contact Eric Werntgen at 834-7828.
Harvest hoop clinic
Houlton varsity boys’ basketball coach Mike Fogarty will be holding the Shooting Shires Basketball Clinic over harvest break Sept. 27-30 at the Houlton High School gymnasium.
Learn the fundamentals of footwork, ball handling, passing, rebounding, shooting and more.
The clinic will run from 8-10 a.m. for boys and girls in grades 2, 3 and 4 and from 10 a.m. to noon for boys and girls in grades 5,6,7 and 8.

Aroostook Youth Basketball League (AYBL) is an organization committed to providing competitive basketball opportunities for youth in grades 3-8, serving as a feeder program for high school basketball teams. Youth will have an opportunity to be on a team that plays a 10-14 game schedule, with games at home and away in towns like Presque Isle, Caribou, Madawaska and Fort Kent. The season runs from Oct. 4 until Jan. 2.
Boys or girls in grades 5 or 6 who are interested in playing, should e-mail Marty Bouchard at mabouchard@msln.net by Sept. 30.
