For those of you who attended Rockin the Doghouse event last weekend and enjoyed the piano concert by Chuck Loucka, you can now find video of various numbers from the concert on YouTube and Facebook. A remarkable talent, we are looking forward to a concert in the near future and will keep you informed so you can come in person and hear music that will give you goose bumps, I guarantee it.
There were so many people who contributed to this event and last week I just teased you with a few details. This week I hope to be able to list all the contributors and volunteers and I apologize in advance if you participated and I miss your name. It’s not that you are unappreciated, but only that the older I get, the worse my memory, and this year I crossed a magical milestone age where I can now blame my age for almost anything!
Many thanks to the following sponsors and donors: First Choice Real Estate, Varney Insurance Agency, Paradis Shop ‘n Save, Crawford Mobile Homes, Houlton Power Sports, Ruth Worthley, Bill Varney, Bart and Nancy Dunn, Ivey’s Motor Lodge, County Yankee Grocer, Lynn York, Ken’s Store, Scott White and Aroostook Auto Glass, Hogan Tire, Food Trend, Northern Musical Supply, Tatitudes, DRD Audio, Tim Horton’s, F.A. Peabody Company, Northern Light Shows, Inc, High Voltage Engine Works, Grand Rental Station, and Ellis IGA.
Volunteers included Jon and Heather Miller, event coordinators, who worked for six months putting this project together, Tim and Dorene Humphrey, Linda Sewell, Joan Logan, Cara and Jonathan Maples, Chris and Chuck Loucka, Charlene Kehler, Courtney Nelson, Lee and Darcy Oliver, Scott and Lori Allen, our wonderful employees Luanne, Caleb and David, Betsy Humphrey, Jan Chandler, Patty Burpee, Bob McGuire, Cindy Folsom, Lois Jeffery, Shelley Chavonelle and grandson, our favorite clown Ben, Butch Asselin and Richard Cleary for having the courage to go into the dunking booth and Sue Tortello for being willing!
To all the volunteers who baked and brought farm produce, to the young man who gave Humvee rides all day long, to all the owners of classic and antique cars, thank you all for your help and participation.
And to all the bands, it was a day of music not to be forgotten, with Three Steps. Mellow Endeavor, Wyatt Jenkins, Chuck Loucka and Mark Miller all performing at their very best.
The old African proverb says “it takes a village to raise a child” and I believe that it takes a village to do a lot of things. We are fortunate that we live where we do, in beautiful Aroostook County, Maine, where people help people, and animals, and care about supporting those who are less fortunate and lifting up their neighbors and helping when help is needed. The Houlton Humane Society animal shelter is blessed and grateful for the support. Because you came to join us for this event, money was raised that will go a long way in taking care of the animals that find themselves without homes, through no fault of their own.
Just this last week we had a tiny little gray kitten that was found all by herself on the Lake Road, no momma, no siblings, just this one tiny little baby kitten. She is doing well at the Shelter but needs a forever home. Then there is the tortie who came in, she’s somewhere between four and six years old, already spayed, but her family could not keep her because a new baby is extremely allergic. She needs a forever home. She is a very loving kitty who has some outdoor experience but would probably be just as happy to be an indoor cat. This is a great time of year to adopt, before the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and with kitten season upon us, there are many to choose from.
Thank you for your continued support, thanks to all of you who participated in Rockin’ the doghouse, my apologies to any that I missed, and stayed tuned for our next event.
