DYER BROOK — The ASAP Coalition and SACS After-School Program will be sponsoring “Becoming a Love and Logic Parent” parenting program starting Wednesday, Nov. 10.
Love and Logic is a parenting method that makes parenting fun and rewarding, instead of stressful and chaotic. Training participants will receive practical tools and techniques that will help them achieve respectful, healthy relationships with their children and help them prepare their kids for the real world. According to the Love and Logic approach, love allows children to grow through their mistakes while logic allows them to live with the consequences of their choices.
How does Love and Logic work? This approach (1) uses humor, hope, and empathy to build up the adult-child relationship; (2) emphasizes respect and dignity both for children and adults; (3) provides real limits in a loving way; and (4) teaches consequences and healthy decision-making.
The parenting program consists of seven 2.5-hour sessions, which begin at 5 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. Supper and childcare will be provided at each session. All sessions will be held at Southern Aroostook Community School. The cost of registration is $20 for all seven weeks (which includes a workbook and free supper and childcare at every session).
