FORT FAIRFIELD – Elaine M. Grant, 67, wife of Norman H. Grant, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, November 6, 2010, surrounded be her loving family, after an eight year battle with multiple myeloma. She was born April 5, 1943, in Calais, the daughter of Joseph M. and Roberta (Grant) Holland.
She received her education in Houlton and Fort Fairfield, and was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1961, and also attended Burdette College, Boston. She was married to Norman H. Grant on June 23, 1962, and after raising her family to school age, worked in the family potato business for twelve years. She later worked as a secretary to the principal for School Administration District 20, Fort Fairfield, for seventeen years.
Elaine was loved by everyone she met. She was very involved in civic and community activities including, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, C.A.N.C.E.R, was a Cub Scout leader, president of Beta Sigma Phi Council Board, was a member of the Fort Fairfield Beautification Committee and was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. Elaine loved to golf and shop with her friends.
She was predeceased by her father, Joseph M. Holland on August 12, 1999.
She is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Norman H. Grant of Fort Fairfield; her mother, Roberta G. Holland of Presque Isle; one son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Kara Grant of Sidney; two daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl and Mark Verrill of Carmel, and Lynne and Ricky Searles of Greenland, NH; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and Richard Campbell of Bar Mills, and Janet and Jerry Behnke of North Yarmouth; six grandchildren, Ashley Clark of Carmel, Kevin Clark of Fort Fair-field, Kristi Searles of Boston, MA, Maranda Searles of Greenland, NH, and Mitchell and Parker Grant, both of Sidney; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends called Tuesday, November 9, 2010, from 6 – 9 p.m., at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service was conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 11 a.m., at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Aaron Damboise celebrant. Interment will take place after the Mass at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshment will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Council Number 1757, 260 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately following the interment service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Grant, to C.A.N.C.E.R, P.O. Box 811, Presque Isle, ME 04769-0811. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
