Military Note

    Roger Wayne Leighton, a 1980 graduate of Houlton High School and a native of Lincoln, recently retired from the military. After graduating high school, Leighton enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended basic training at Paris Island, S.C. During his 30 years of military service, Leighton was stationed around the world, most recently a deployment in 2007 to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
    Leighton earned a bachelor’s degree in professional aeronautics and his military decorations included the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal and two Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals. Leighton is the son of Roger (deceased) and Sheila Leighton of Belgrade. Leighton and his wife Lydia have two children. The family reside in San Diego, Calif.
