Celebrating a century

Verna Grant celebrated her 100th birthday on Jan. 8 during a reception at Madigan Estates surrounded by some 30 family members. Christine Grant had the above photo of her grandmother, taken during the 2010 Christmas season, scanned for a sugar sheet which she put on top of the birthday cake she made at her home in Monticello. Her grandmother, she said, received flowers, cards and a plush Teddy bear which she has been cuddling at Madigan Estates. In addition to many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, Verna Grant was also visited for her birthday by her own children and their spouses: Bernard and Louise Grant, Patricia Noli and Annette and David Copley, all of Houlton; Bessie and Normand Guerette of Massachusetts and Marilyn Linder of Woodstock, N.B.
