    HODGDON – Bertrand E. Gardiner, Jr., 80, died Feb. 13, 2011 at a local healthcare facility. He was born Sept. 29, 1931 at S. Kingston, RI, the son of Bertrand E. Sr., and Carrie S. (Caswell) Gardiner.
    Bertrand served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Houlton American Legion. He was employed with General Dynamics in Groton, CT and was a 60-year veteran of the Peacedale, RI fire department. He enjoyed coaching his children and others in all sports they participated in.
    Bertrand is survived by his wife, Ruth Gardiner of Hodgdon; seven children, Bertrand E. Gardiner III of RI, Gary K. Gardiner and Susan Martinez, both of Hodgdon, Steven B. Gardiner of New Limerick, Kimberly Gardiner and Dean B. Gardiner, both of Hodgdon, Evelyn Boettger of Germany; fourteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald Gardiner of RI; sisters, Sharon Lewis of Sherman, Lydia Sorenson of RI; several nieces and nephews.
    He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Alfred C. Gardiner; three sisters, Beverly McArvelle, Janice Charnley and Loly Kalinski.
