PATTEN – Laurel W. Johnson, 85, died March 5, 2011, in Concord, N.C. He has gone to be with his beloved wife of 48 years, Iva, whom he married Dec. 23, 1950. He was born May 14, 1925, along with his twin sister, Laura, the son of Fred and Ada (Daley) Johnson at the Wadsworth Homestead in Mount Chase.
He graduated from Patten Academy in 1946. He was employed at Great Northern Paper Co., East Millinocket, for 28 years. He enjoyed his many friends and sharing fruit from his farm. He enjoyed sharing his love of fishing with many.
He was a kind and caring man who cared for anyone in need.
He is survived by four daughters, Twyla Bradley of Presque Isle, Laurie and her husband, Ken Libby, of Hersey, Theresa and her husband, Gene McCarthy, of Sherman Station and Marjorie and her husband, David Chewning, of Concord, N.C.; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Helen Harvey of Patten and Pat Johnson of Belfast; one brother-in-law, Charles Campbell of Germany; special friends, Fred and Harriet Parker and Dave and Ruth Brooks of Patten; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his wife; parents; a son, Glenn Frank Johnson; his brothers, Maurice, Stanley, Frank, Thurman and Billy; his sisters, Ione and Laura; sister-in-law, Beverly; two granddaughters and one great-grandson.
Friends called noon-2 p.m. Thursday at Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, Patten, where funeral services were held 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. David Dreyenforth officiating.
