Aroostook Times
Hodgdon — Milton Haskell has tapped 900 trees and as soon as the weather warms will be ready to serve his many customers.
New construction — Robert Gerow has built a new sugar camp and has it fully equipped for maple sugar days.
Local — Geo. Wilson and C.H. White have purchased a lot of John Weiler on the east side of Mechanic Street and will build a concrete garage 100 X 48, as soon as the ground permits.

Island Falls — James MacArthur, a member of the junior class in Island Falls High School is probably the youngest Subordinate Grange Master in the State of Maine.
Local — Friends of Max Etscovitz will be sorry to learn he is confined to his home with a trained nurse in attendance.
Hodgdon — Who says, Spring hasn’t come? Mrs. John Hunter planted peas, March 25.

Telethon Show — The Flutterby Fluterettes of 1961, second-grade students of Mrs. Flave Jewell in the Monticello Grammar School were the grand prize winners of the fourth annual Red Cross Telethon. Houlton songsters, Mary Adele Lynds, Debbie Decker, Astrid Folsom, Bruce Brown and Frank Gorham won second place. They were accompanied by Ralph Bickford.

FUTURE HOMEMAKERS — Ricker Classical Institute’s Future Homemakers of America will again sponsor the Easter Seal tag days. The only such chapter in the state undertaking this civic project. Spelling Bee — Janice Anderson of the Littleton Consolidated School was the winner of the Union 118 Spelling Bee. Runner-up was Jane Madigan of St. Mary’s.

New principal — David Wiggin, currently the head of the Houlton High School English Department was selected to be the new principal at the Southern Aroostook Community High School.
Principal Awards — Several area students have been selected for the annual Principal Awards. They are, Kathy Bryant, Southern Aroostook Community High School; Beth Grass, Central Aroostook High School; Mary Inman, Houlton High School and Eric Hanscom of Hodgdon High.
Original music — Harrison Roper has written the music for the play, “Huckleberry Finn” to be presented by the Houlton Children’s Theatre. The play is being directed by Ann Barnes.
