MONTICELLO – J. Walter Delong, 76, died April 15, 2011 at a Bangor Hospital. He was born Oct. 6, 1934 in Monticello, the son of Elbridge and Dorothy (Hanning) Delong.
Walter attended Monticello schools and was a 1953 graduate of Houlton High School. He was a long-time Monticello farmer and also worked for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad. His family will miss his strong leadership, loving guidance and honest support.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Homchuck) Delong of Monticello, two daughters, Debra Madigan and her husband, Jack, of Cumberland, Valerie DeLong and her husband, Keith, of Mapleton; three sons, Fred, of Mars Hill, Joe and his wife, Pam, of Auburn; Allen of Brunswick; three brothers, Leon of WA, Alvin of VA, and Gary of NH; two sisters, Pat McGowan of Scarborough, and Candice Muehleisan of Cumberland; seven grand-children and five great-grand-children and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Joy Keough and a brother Vincent “Bud.”
Friends called at the Dunn Funeral Home Tuesday 11 a.m. until time of the service at 1 p.m. A time of fellowship will be held at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum following the service.
