Play third tourney game Friday night in Bangor
The Houlton 9-10-year-old All-Stars began tournament play on June 25 against a tough Brewer squad at the Bangor West Complex.
Brewer jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on a throwing error and a fielder’s choice. They pushed the lead to 5-0 in the third inning when they led off with a walk and then had four consecutive hits to lead the rally.
In the bottom of the third, Houlton jumped on the scoreboard with three runs. After a leadoff single by Jason Collett, Nick Perfitt hit a single and they both scored on a two-run single by Drew Marino. Marino stole second and third and scored on a passed ball to finish the scoring.

Brewer pushed the lead to 7-3 in the fourth with two more runs.
Zach Cowperthwaite hit a double in the fifth inning and scored on a passed ball to bring Houlton within three runs, but that was as close as Houlton would get. Brewer scored one more in the top of the sixth for a final score of 8-4.
Cowperthwaite and Perfitt combined for nine strikeouts and “both pitched a very good game against a good Brewer team,” said coach Joe Porter.
On June 26, Houlton rebounded to defeat Orono-Veazie 11-1 in a four-inning game at the Bangor West Complex.
Houlton came up in the bottom of the first and scored four runs to jump out to a quick lead. Keegan Gentle, Perfitt and Marino hit singles to put Houlton on the board 1-0. Andrew Tuttle followed with a two-run triple and he scored on an RBI-single by Nolan Porter.
Houlton added a run in the second inning on an RBI-single by Cowperthwaite. Houlton then scored three more times in the third inning, getting three hits in the inning, including a perfect bunt single from Cameron Callnan. Houlton scored three more times in the fourth inning, the highlight being an RBI-triple from Will Austin.
