Fort Fairfield – Marlene D. “Dicky” Sprague, 72, wife of the late Jack E. Sprague Sr., died Thursday morning, February 15, 2007 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following an extended illness. She was born October 4, 1934 at Presque Isle, the daughter of Harold S. and Dorothea W. (Brayson) Shaw.
Dicky was a graduate of the Presque Isle High School Class of 1953 and was married to Jack E. Sprague Sr. in March 1969. She was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Fort Fairfield, a member of the Fort Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the D.A.R.E. Program.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sprague was predeceased by her husband Jack on February 18, 1982; and one brother, Frederick O. Shaw. She is survived by two sons, Horace H. Higgins III and his wife Caroline of Roswell, GA, Kelley Sprague and his wife Betty of Laconia, NH; one daughter, Richalene Thibeau of Presque Isle; three stepsons, Claude L. Sprague of Atlanta, GA, Gordon Sprague and his wife Solange of Norwich, CT, Jack E. Sprague Jr. and his wife Michelle of Cape Elizabeth; two stepdaughters, Audrey Tarvin of Marietta, GA, Cynthia Beaulieu and her husband Gerald of Fort Fairfield; two sisters, Marcelyn Carter and her husband Wendell, Marilyn Lennon and her husband Reuben, all of Presque Isle; five grandchildren; several step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends called Monday, February 19, 2007 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dorsey Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of fellowship with refreshments took place at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately following the funeral service. Those who choose may contribute in memory of Mrs. Sprague to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, One Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, 04086. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
