Summer recreation program registration
    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks will hold registration for its summer programs May 21-23 for Presque Isle residents. Non-residents may register beginning May 27th. Registration takes place at the William V. Haskell Community Center from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.     The summer brochures will be distributed to local schools, and will also be available to be picked up at the community center. Among the programs offered are adventure camp, kayaking, mountain biking, Hershey track and field, girls’ softball, baseball, tennis, swimming lessons and arts and crafts.  
Pitch, hit and run contest
    Local youth can showcase their throwing, hitting and base-running as the Presque Isle Recreation and Parks holds a pitch, hit and run contest. The competition is free and open to all Presque Isle area boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14. It will take place Sunday, May 18 at the Pine Street diamond in Presque Isle. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the competition starting at 6:00 p.m.
    Local winners will advance to the sectionals at the University of Maine at Orono in June. Top performers at the sectionals will be eligible to advance to the team championships in Boston, and winners from their move on to the nationals during the Major League Baseball All-Star weekend in Pittsburgh, PA.
Summer openings
    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is currently taking applications for lifeguards this summer. Please stop by the center or call 764-2545 for more information or to pick up an application.
