A new Band and Chorus Committee will be organizing in order to build up some interest in school music. They will be meeting on Monday, May 19, at 6 p.m. at the elementary school cafeteria. An open invitation is being extended to parents, grandparents and community members including former band members.
Anyone interested in music for our school including a possible pep band, school band and any form of the arts is urged to attend. This will be for both the junior high-middle school, elementary and high school levels. For further information, contact Larry Jenkens at the elementary school.

Special 7th birthday celebrated
Jayden Grace Harris celebrated her 7th birthday recently with a party at her home. Jayden and her guests enjoyed dancing and playing ‘dress-up’ and all enjoyed the opening of many cards and gifts.
Her parents served pizza, chips and dip, then came the birthday cake and ice cream. Her cake was made by her nana, Ardis Humphrey, and was decorated with her birthday theme of “High School Musical.”
Guests attending included her parents Jana and Barry Ingraham, her sister Jenica Ray Harris, her grandparents Raymond and Ardis Humphrey, Aunt Jody Morin, Uncle Joel Humphrey and special friend Rhonda, Quinton Thompson, Heidi Thompson, Sierra Ginn, Sarah Maynard and Brianna Turner. Unable to attend but sending a gift were Charlie and Linda Ingraham.
Ongoing events/reminders
The Perham Town Office will close Wednesday, May 21 at 1 p.m. and re-open Tuesday, May 27 at 8 a.m.
On Fridays, the Trailrunners Snowmobile clubhouse kitchen will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a light lunch including burgers and hot dogs and Stew Night features a variety of great homemade soups and stews served starting at 4 p.m. On Saturdays, the kitchen is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. serving breakfast and lunch. Sundays, the clubhouse will be serving breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
TOPS will be meeting each Monday at the Washburn Trailrunners clubhouse, starting with weigh-in at 4:15 p.m. and the meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. For information, contact Birdena Cochran at 455-8353.
The Oscar Dow Post 48 of the American Legion will meet at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center on Tuesday, May 20. New members are always welcome.
A fund-raising event for the class of 2011 is ongoing, and the group will be volunteering to do yard work through the month of May for donations. Anyone interested may call Mrs. Knowles at the school at 455-4501.
Haircut for worthy cause
Paul DuMont recently visited Studio Looks in Presque Isle and had some major cutting done. Hair stylist Erika Vaughn ‘trimmed’ 14 inches, plus several additional inches of hair loss due to styling. Paul donated his hair to Locks of Love in order to support a wig for a cancer patient.
His wife Diane accompanied Paul and got some good photos of the event, and his son, Damien watched with lots of enjoyment at his father’s predicament.
Aroostook River Fun Run
There will be a canoe and kayak race taking place on Saturday, May 31, sponsored by the Presque Isle and Washburn Rotary Clubs.
The Aroostook River Fun Run will begin at the Thomas Brewer Park in Washburn and will end at the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club. Registration will begin at the Washburn site starting at 8:30 a.m. and you can also register by mail. Please make checks payable to Presque Isle Rotary Club and mail the completed and signed registration form to: Presque Isle Rotary Club, P.O. Box 641, Presque Isle, ME 04769, Att. Canoe Race Committee.
There will be various classifications with various prices per paddler according to age. Leaflets with registration forms and much more information on the race are available at various businesses and by phoning any Rotarian.
This is an event to celebrate the natural beauty of our river and promote water sports for family-oriented recreation. The proceeds will benefit the Wintergreen Arts Center. Crouseville by the sea!
The annual ‘Lobster Fest’ served up by the Crouseville Advent Christian Church members is scheduled for Saturday, May 31. All tickets are $25 each and must be reserved in advance, with the cutoff date being Monday, May 26. Seating is limited, so be sure and get yours reserved early! These lobsters will be totally fresh, straight out of the ocean the morning of the supper!
The meals consist of the average one-and-one-half-pound Maine lobster, a baked Maine potato, green salad and a delicious dessert made by the famous good cooks of Crouseville.
The meals can be eaten at the Church Mission building in two settings, 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The tickets will have the times and which seating on them. Take-out orders will be available starting at 5:45 p.m. and reserved tickets are also required.

August Festival
The August Festival Committee is now becoming active with the annual event being only three months away. At their last meeting, the date for the 2008 event was officially set as Friday, Aug. 15, Saturday, Aug. 16 and Sunday, Aug. 17. Andrea Powers was selected co-chairman along with Peggy Bugbee and “Generations: Past, Present and Future” was chosen as the theme. Participation letters for parade entries, sponsorship and donations will be in the mail in the near future.

New Baby
Caleb David Levesque made his entrance into the world at 2:34 p.m. on Friday, May 2. He weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19 inches long. His parents are Michael Levesque and Alexa Salch, and he joins sisters Michaela and Chelsea and “big brother” Alex Levesque. His grandparents include David and Anissa Levesque, Ray and Linda Salch and Darlene Levesque, all of Caribou.Great Grandparents include Lawrence and Anne Levesque of Connor, Lucille Salch of Connecticut, Richard Carpenter of Limestone, Ruth Beach of Tennessee and Ethelyn Plante of Presque Isle.
Historical Society
The Salmon Brook Historical Society will be holding their quarterly meeting on June 26, at the Washburn Civic Center at 6 p.m. There will be a potluck supper followed by a business meeting. Please bring a main dish or dessert and a place setting. Entertainment will be provided by The Main Event Singers. Bring your friends and neighbors. All are welcome.
