The Houlton Lady Shires fell behind early and could not recover, as the Minutemen picked up a 56-38 victory in Millinocket last Tuesday.
The game opened with the Lady Shires trailing, 14-9 and 23-17 at halftime. The Minutemen stretched the lead to 10 points at the end of the third and outscored Houlton, 18-10 in the final stanza.
Tori Hanson and Amanda Fogarty each scored 10 points for Houlton and Marina Cameron added eight for the 3-2 Lady Shires.
Sigrid Koizer scored a game-high 29 points for Stearns, along with seven steals and five assists. Ashley Rollins netted nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds, while Taylor Pelkey scored six points and brought down six rebounds.
The Minutemen improve to 5-1 on the year.
Last Thursday, the Lady Shires overpowered host Lee Academy, 61-26.
Houlton jumped to a 21-5 opening lead, as Cameron led the way with 14 points — four 3-pointers and a basket — as the Lady Shires pushed their lead to 36-13 at halftime en route to the win.
Cameron had a game-high 22 points, while Hanson added 15 for 2-2 Houlton.
Last Tuesday in Washburn, the Beavers overwhelmed visiting Southern Aroostook, 82-47.
Jesse Boulier led Southern Aroostook with 15 points, while Kaleb Burpee posted 12 and Cody Lassonde chipped in with 11.
For Washburn, Mitch Worcester poured in 32 points and grabbed 11 boards, while Jordan McLaughlin tossed in 19 and had six steals; Nick Bragg added 11 points; Mason Turner had nine points and 11 rebounds and Chase Chandler scored nine points and hauled down seven rebounds.
Last Thursday, the Katahdin Cougars evened their season record to 2-2 with a 49-35 win over visiting Penobscot Valley.
Colton Bivighouse and Wyatt Morse each scored 16 points for the Cougars, while Braden Cunningham grabbed 12 rebounds and Bivighouse nine more.
The Woodland Dragons defeated host East Grand, 90-43, last Wednesday.
Logan Crone had 11 points for the Vikings, while Alex Brittain added eight.
On Monday, the Ashland Hornets stung the visiting East Grand girls, 49-28.
Bethany Lindsey led East Grand with seven points, while Felicia Cowger, Allie McEwen and Elisha Farley all had six points.
Ashland took an 18-6 lead and held East Grand scoreless in the second, 32-6 en route to the win.
