ATV season officially began locally, with the majority of trails opening in the area over the May 24-25 weekend.
The Presque Isle Police Department was advising outdoor enthusiasts that trails in the Star City were open for use, with the exception of the trail off the Burlock Road. That route is indefinitely closed due to a bridge being washed out. Openings may vary in other areas. Local clubs will be able to advise individuals about routes in their areas.
The Star City ATV Club held its first ride of the year on Sunday, May 25, enjoying a trip to Monticello where the group stopped for lunch at the Blue Moose.
For those wanting to brush up on their ATV skills or wishing to educate children on the proper use of four-wheelers, the Star City ATV Club will be offering a safety course in mid-June.
“We’ll be holding a safety course on June 13 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and another on June 14 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Presque Isle Police Department,” said Dick Howlett, club president.
Participation is by pre-registration only.
