We are offering a new program at our school. It is called Educational Talent Search with Barb London as advisor. It is open to qualifying students in grades 7-11. It is a federally funded program that offers free services to students who have the desire and potential to go to college. These students may be facing some barriers in achieving that dream. A few of the services include study and personal skills, career and college exploration, financial planning and financial aid and fun activities, just to name a few. Get your application in the Guidance Office at school.

Social Studies Class News
On Friday, March 30, Houlton High School social studies teacher Tim Tweedie took six Model State Legislature students to the SMCC campus in South Portland to hear President Obama speak. The students, who each personally paid $44 for the tickets, had the opportunity to hear the President’s 40-minute address, as well as keynotes by Rep. Chellie Pingree and former Maine Senator, George Mitchell. Tweedie said he wanted to take students to listen to the President so they could complete the gamut of the political spectrum, as these same students have also had opportunities to meet Governor Paul LePage and Senator Susan Collins this school year. “This year, these kids have had a unique opportunity to meet some pretty impressive elected officials. They’ve had the chance to listen to politicians from both sides of the aisle, which is ideal, because I like to see them develop their own points of view on how the system works. I am very proud of them.”
