Hodgdon High School names honor students

    HODGDON, Maine — Mary Harbison, principal at Hodgdon High School, has announced the honor parts for the graduating Class of 2012.
Kimberly Levesque, daughter of Rudy and Anita Levesque of Linneus, has been a versatile member of the Class of 2012 and is its valedictorian.
    Levesque has received highest honors as well as the Houlton Rotary Achievement Award for all four years, and is currently president of the National Honor Society. She has received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, the 2012 Maine Principal’s Award, the VFW Voice of Democracy Award and numerous certificates of excellence for individual classes. She has acquired 16 college credits during her high school career.
Levesque is also president of the Student Council, participated in the Carter Memorial Walk Committee and received the student of the month award from the faculty. She has been a four-year member of the Hodgdon High School band as well as the Envirothon Team. She played soccer, basketball and softball, rising to captain her senior year.
Levesque was chosen to be part of the Houlton Rotary Youth Exchange in her sophomore year. She was an active member of the 4-H Wild Mustangs, Aroostook Riding Club, Pony Club and was a 14-year member of the Houlton School of Dance. She remains an active member of Saint Mary’s Youth Ministry.
She has received the Presidential Scholarship from Springfield College in Massachusetts where she will attend in the fall majoring in physical therapy.
Erik Ryan, son of Dana and Lynne Ryan of Ludlow, is Hodgdon High School’s salutatorian.
Ryan has received highest honors all four years of his high school career and is currently the vice president of the National Honor Society. He was named an Aroostook County Academic Athlete in 2012 and also received the Houlton Rotary Achievement Award for the past three years.
He is a three-year member of the student council and a four-year member of the Envirothon Team. He played varsity baseball for four years, rising to captain for his junior and senior years; played varsity soccer for three years rising to captain his senior year, and played varsity basketball for two years. He is an active member of St. Mary’s Parish Youth Ministry.
Ryan will be attending the University of Maine at Orono double majoring in civil and environmental engineering.
The title of first honor essayist is shared by Kayla Ann Harris and Britta Oliver this year.
Kayla Ann Harris, daughter of George and Daphne Harris of Hodgdon, as first honor essayist has worked very hard in her high school career. For four consecutive years, she has: maintained highest honors, been selected as student of the month by the faculty, and received the Houlton Rotary Achievement Award. She also received the George Eastman Young Leaders Award from the University of Rochester
Harris is a member of the National Honor Society serving as secretary for two years as well as a member of the Houlton-Hodgdon Dollars for Scholars Executive Board for two years; she has served as vice president of her class for one year, a member of the Student Council for one year and was the manager of the girl’s varsity soccer team.
She has been a four-year member of Hodgdon High School’s band and chorus and was the recipient of the Outstanding Musician Award. She has played the harp for 10 years both individually and as part of a group. She is an active member of St.Mary’s Parish’s Youth Ministry.
Harris has received the Presidential Scholarship from the University of New England where she will attend in the fall of 2012, majoring in the pre-pharmacy program.
Britta Oliver, daughter of Joel and Lynn Oliver of Hodgdon, as a first honor essayist has been active in a variety of activities at Hodgdon High School. In addition to playing varsity soccer for four years and varsity basketball for three, she has been a committed member of both Hodgdon High School’s Band and Chorus throughout her high school career.
Oliver is a member of the National Honor Society, serving as treasurer for the past two years; additionally she has been class treasurer the past two years and previously served on the Athletic Council. Britta is a two year member of the Houlton-Hodgdon Dollars for Scholars Executive board, has been selected as student of the month by the faculty and has participated on the Envirothon Team.
She has consistently made highest honors and was honored in her sophomore year as a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program. She was named as the female recipient for the Aroostook County Academic Athlete for 2012, and has received various other academic awards during high school. Outside of school, Britta takes both piano and voice lessons and is an active member of the Hodgdon Baptist Church Youth Group.
Oliver has accepted the Merit Scholarship from the University of Maine where she will attend in the fall of 2012, majoring in anthropology.
Bernadette Willette, guidance counselor at Hodgdon High School, reported the remaining top 25 percent of graduating seniors. They include    Taylor Carpenter, Kaitlyn Dorr, Taylor Dwyer and Riley Hutchinson.
