Regional Visitor’s Guide to be released in October

CARIBOU — Keeping with their mission of promoting economic development and tourism prosperity in northern Maine, officials with the Northern Maine Development Commission and Aroostook County Tourism have selected a company based downstate in Bath to produce the new Aroostook County Regional Visitor’s Guide, which is expected to be completed in early October.
“The Aroostook County Tourism Regional Guide Committee is very pleased with the proposal that DDP presented to us and we feel strongly that they will produce a high quality piece that will meet our needs as well as the needs of the visiting tourist,” said Leslie Jackson, regional tourism developer for NMDC.
Direct Display Publishing, based in Bath, publishes as many as nine magazines a year in Maine and New England.
According to the company’s website, Direct Display Publishing “is an advertising-based publishing company specializing in the development of custom information directories and advertising-based specialty products, distributed free throughout New England.”
Founded 17 years ago, DDP is staffed with five office personnel and seven sales representatives, including one in Caribou: Bonnie Pack. Pack will be handling a majority of advertising sales for the new guide.
The guide will provide free general listings for tourism-related businesses, including the name, location, phone number and website of all tourism-related businesses. Businesses wishing to expand their presence in the guide can purchase advertising.
“The Visitor’s Guide will contain information on all the wonderful things Aroostook County has to offer with topics including, but not limited to, cultural, historical, recreational, hunting, fishing, motorized and non-motorized activities, lodging, dining and events,” said Jackson. “As an added feature, the guide will also be produced in a format that is easy to use on smart phones and mobile devices.”
Tourism-related businesses that want to be listed in the guide need to contact Jackson no later than Aug. 15.
“While we maintain a database of tourism businesses, the information we have often becomes outdated as phone numbers change, businesses open and close, etcetera,” she added.
Jackson can be reached by e-mail at ljackson@nmdc.org or by calling 498-8736.
