The Kennebec Valley Health Center’s Scholarship Committee has named Vanessa Lefay of Oakfield as the recipient of the 2012 Casey White Memorial Scholarship. The Casey White Memorial Scholarship is a $3,000 annual scholarship awarded to a prospective college student in a healthcare-related degree program that has been out of high school for at least a year and is going back to school for the first time or is changing careers by getting a new degree. The scholarship was established in 2012 in memory of Casey White, FNP.
LeFay is currently working at KVHC as a Medical Assistant, and is returning to school at Northern Maine Community College to become a RN. She has been attending classes part-time in addition to working full-time at the health center, but in the fall of 2012 she will be attending school full-time. The award of $3,000 (renewable annually) is based on scholarship criteria including her commitment to KVHC and the area that KVHC serves, and her commitment to returning to school and receiving her RN degree.
“Casey was a great person and a wonderful provider. It is more than my honor to accept a scholarship named in his memory, in the hopes that I can someday be as great of a healthcare provider as he was. Casey is sorely missed and will never be forgotten. I am honored and extremely grateful to be the one chosen to receive this gift, and I am excited to get started on the journey to becoming a registered nurse. This scholarship will certainly help me toward my goal,” said LeFay.
