As July comes to an end, so did the Club Championship at Houlton Community Golf Club.
On the men’s side, Tim Guy defeated Dylan Flewelling in the finals over the weekend to claim the men’s crown once again. Daniel Peabody captured the “B” flight title with a victory over Ryan Dee and Tom Moakler was victorious in the “C” flight finals with a win over Smokey Hand.
Misty Marino claimed the ladies’ title for the first time by defeating LouAnn Dwyer in the finals. In the “B” flight, Kara Marino hung on to edge out Harriet Gray. And in the Junior division, Drew Marino shot a 41 in the 9-hole stroke play event to capture the title.
Congratulations to all our champions and all those who participated and made this another terrific event!
As August rolls in, so does the County Open, which we will be hosting this weekend at HCGC and VaJoWa. The golf gets under way on Friday at VaJoWa with the annual four-person scramble. The individual event will be played on Saturday and Sunday, with each course hosting one day of the event. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!
The Men’s and Ladies Twilight Leagues are also winding down, which means the playoffs are in the air! On the men’s side, Gabe Goodwin and Dan Peabody finished up the regular season as the top seed as they head into the playoffs looking to defend their title from last year. Best of luck to all 16 teams that qualified for the playoffs as they try to capture the title of League Champs!
The ladies regular season schedule winds down next week with a number of teams still fighting for the top spot as they prepare for the playoffs.
The President’s Cup will also be held this month at HCGC on Saturday, Aug. 18. This tournament is a member’s only tournament open to everyone with an established handicap. This is an 18-hole net event with both a men’s and ladies’ division. Call the Pro Shop for more information or to sign up for this event.
Also looming on the horizon is the Babe Caron Invitational Member/Guest, which will be held at the club over Labor Day weekend. All members and guests must be 18 years of age and have a verifiable handicap to participate. This two-day tournament generally fills up fast so get your team signed up pronto!
The grounds crew continues to do a terrific job maintaining our course and the sun continues to shine so come on out and play! The Pro Shop is currently running a couple mid-summer specials on greens fees, as well. Call the Pro Shop for more details and book your tee time today!
