HOULTON — If you walk into a Dead River Company office any Wednesday in September, don’t be confused. It’s not “casual Friday.” It’s “Blue Jeans Wednesday.”

Beginning a week from today, from Sept. 5 to Sept. 26, Dead River Company will support “Hunger Awareness Month” in all 57 of its Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts service areas giving their employees an opportunity to donate a dollar to wear blue jeans to work.  The money donated by employees will be matched dollar for dollar by Dead River Company.

The donations will be distributed to the following food banks: Maine, Good Shepherd Food Bank; New Hampshire, New Hampshire Food Bank; Vermont, Vermont Food Bank; Massachusetts, Center for Self Reliance.

This is one of many donations Dead River Company has made across its footprint in its concentrated effort to combat hunger. So far this year, the company has donated over $250,000 to food assistance programs that serve thousands of families in need.

“This is a company-wide effort,” said Bob Moore, president and CEO of Dead River Company. “We made a commitment to help people in the communities we serve, and our employees have embraced it completely—donating food and their time at local food banks. We thought ‘Blue Jeans Wednesdays’ would be an easy way for them to take part.”
