Hansen honored in Special Olympics

    PRESQUE ISLE – Ryan Hanset, a consumer at the Work Opportunity Center in Presque Isle, was recently chosen to participate on an All-Star Special Olympics Basketball Team. The team represented the State of Maine at the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament held in Portsmouth, N.H. on April 11-13.

    The Maine team placed first out of 27 participating teams. Hansen was awarded the Most Valuable Player award and Best Defensive Player award in the tournament.
    Hansen also participated in the Special Olympics Softball Tournament held in Burlington, Vt. on May 30 to June 1. The All-Star team from Maine also placed first in this competition.
    The teams were coached by Duane Hall, the director of Opportunity Housing Incorporated in Brewer. Hall saw Hansen perform on his hometown basketball team, coached by Brad Stevens, at the Maine Special Olympics Basketball Tournament, and invited him to join the All-Star team.
