Houlton 10-11-year-olds Saturday, Sunday
The Houlton 10-11-year-old all-stars will play in the District 3 Little League double-elimination tournament this weekend in Glenburn.
The team’s first game is Saturday at 3 p.m. against Hampden. If they win, they play at noon on Sunday, but if they lose the game will be at 6 p.m.
Representing Houlton on the 10-11 all-star team coached by Brian Reynolds, Dave Astle and Patrick Brewer are Jaron Brewer, David Tucker, Jr., Alex Wilde, Eli Bulley, Jaron Gentle, Kyle Carver, Logan Swallow, Noah Reynolds, Derek Brown, Logan Tribou, Joel Carmichael, Hunter Sennett, Thomas Astle and Gabe Ledger.
Houlton 11-12-year-olds’ first game Friday
The District 3 Little League 11-12-year-old double-elimination all-star tournament has begun. Teams are in pool play and will have three games with the top two winners moving on toward the championship.
On Monday, Millinocket came back in the top of the fifth to score seven runs to overtake Katahdin Valley, 15-4.
For Katahdin Valley, Jayden Burpee started and pitched three innings, striking out eight, walking two, and giving up four hits. On offense, Caleb Giles doubled and had two RBI, while Brett Williams and Blake Howes each hit a run-scoring singles and Owen Sinclair singled.
Millinocket grabbed an 8-4 advantage in the fourth before breaking the game open with a seven-run sixth.
Teams playing in the District 3 Little League all-star tournament are: Pool A, Katahdin Valley, Glenburn, Lincoln and Millinocket; Pool B, Houlton, Orono-Veazie, Bronco Little League and Sebasticook Valley; Pool C, Bangor East, Bangor West, Hermon and Old Town; Pool D, Orrington, Holbrook and Brewer.
The Houlton 11-12-year-old all-star squad coached by Joe Porter, Peter Collett and Ben Drew features Andrew Tuttle, Ben Grant, Cameron Callnan, Drew Marino, Jason Collett, Justin Tuck, Keegan Gentle, Nick Brewer, Nick Perfitt, Nolan Porter, Sam Drew, Tyler Bailey, Will Austin and Duncan McCormick.
Houlton’s first game was scheduled yesterday against the Bronco Little League in Hampden, but was canceled due to wet field conditions. So, the Houlton All-stars will play Friday at 6 p.m. against Bronco LL in Hampden. Their next game is set for Monday against Sebasticook Valley and their third game, Wednesday, July 10 is against Orono/Veazie.
Katahdin Valley’s second game is tomorrow against Lincoln and their third contest is Tuesday, July 9 against Glenburn.
On Friday, July 12, the first-place winner in Pool A (Katahdin Valley’s bracket) will take on the second-place winner in Pool C, with the second game between the first-place winner in Pool C against second-place winner in Pool A. The third game features the first-place winner in Pool B (Houlton’s bracket) against the second-place winner in Pool D, with the first-place winner in Pool D facing the second-place winner in Pool B.
On Monday, July 15, the winners of games one and three will meet and the winners of game two and four will play for their place in the championship on Tuesday, July 16.All games are at 5:30 p.m.
