Family Field Day gaining momentum in Linneus

LINNEUS — Saturday, the town of Linneus will be celebrating Linneus Family Field Day at the Linneus Community ball field.
The day’s event starts off at 10 a.m. with a parade on Route 2A, leading into a community barbecue. There will be games for all ages going on throughout the day, including a dunk tank and bounce house.

Linneus Family Field Day was first held in 1991, as a way for the community to celebrate and show its spirit. The event was held annually until 2003. Last year, the event was reinstated. This year, the Linneus Recreation Board is hoping for more people and good weather.
The Linneus Recreation Department sponsors the one-day celebration, which drew more than 340 people a year ago. Linneus has a population of around 800 residents.
Linneus Recreation Director Mike Lane said the event actually worked out a lot better than expected for the first year of starting it up again. He felt the day was as fun and entertaining as any year they had in the past.
The theme of the parade leans toward Patriotic, as children decorate their bicycles, ATVs or wagons with the Red, White and Blue. There will be classic cars, fire engines and floats, as well as a few walkers on the parade route. Prizes will also be given.
Anyone who wants to be in the parade should be at the Linneus Recreation Department by 9:30 a.m.
After the parade, people will gather for a community barbecue of hamburgers, hot dogs and refreshments, which will be provided. Those attending should also bring a potluck side (salad or dessert) to share.
The community barbecue will be a good place to get reacquainted with neighbors and visitors you may not see on a regular basis.
