There are gems hidden in most libraries and Cary Library has some, too.
Hm-m-m-m, “Potatoes and Pencils”, the Aroostook Right-To-Read production of area students’ original writing is
just such a jewel for anyone wondering about latent talent for writing poetry, tales of animals, friends, family, fantasy adventures and seasonal pieces. And that’s not all, included are reflections, dreams, and Aroostook stories. A wide selection of styles and topics of various lengths and depth of thinking.
The 2009 Edition is the one we chose to highlight this week. Representing some fourth graders that year from this area were (last names only for privacy): Suitter, Libby, Gardner, Jacobs, Rini, Roshto, Webb and McAfee. Students from fifth grades who were published were:Sewell, Hanson, and Hanning. Rhoda, Dickison, and Brewer were sixth graders with something to say. Author Wallace was in seventh grade that year and Author Palmer was an eighth grader.
Many people reading this can do the math and let those wonderful students know their efforts are still enjoyed by Library patrons. Read and write on, you talented generation!
