Ayurveda — is right for me?

The Mindful Way has been in Houlton since 2000 and became a member of Five Elements Healing Arts Center in 2006.

Linda Rowe is a registered yoga teacher, who has been practicing/teaching for 19 years. She has completed a program with New World Ayurveda this year.
Ayurveda is the oldest and continuously practiced system of medicine in the world, Ayurveda is vibrant, dynamic, relevant and usable – a thriving complement to Allopathic medicine. In practice and popularity, Ayurveda is gaining momentum as the primary care medicine.
The definition of Ayurveda: Ayur (Life) Veda (knowledge or science) – the science of life, is a universal and complete system of medicine, healing and well being with its roots in India at least 5,000 years ago.
This system views the process of food preparation, eating, and digestion as the keys to maintaining health and ensuring a long life. Ayurveda teaches that diseases of the body and mind occur because of poor diet, including bad food combining, inappropriate food for that individual, and a weak digestive fire.
Rowe is an Ayurvedic practitioner and teaches group classes, private and semi-private sessions and is now giving Ayurvedic consultations.
Through the structure of ayurveda, Rowe can help people better understand what they are noticing or experiencing in their bodies.  As ayurveda addresses the body at the level of imbalance rather than disease, there are usually many non-invasive and cost effective ways to return to balance.
Ayurveda is not Indian herbal medicine. It requires the person to take back their responsibility for their health. Rowe uses several tools to identify the imbalance such as pulse reading, tongue diagnosis, visual cues and the vedic chart.
Upcoming workshops this fall include Intro to Ayurveda — there will be a workshop every month September through December; Got Sleep? – Natural ways to address your sleep issues in September; Get Healthy for Winter – learn natural remedies and lifestyle changes to stay healthy in October; and Women’s Health – ayurveda offers an excellent way in November.
Modern day life demands require that we equip ourselves with tools to handle the speed, the stress, the confusion between doing too much and not doing enough.
