SACAP features local artists, as well as promising talent

The Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project (SACAP), located in downtown Houlton at 66 Main St., is a cultural and artistic center for southern Aroostook County featuring the work of talented local artists and promising talent.

SACAP is a non-profit organization that has been in operation since 2003. It operates Visions, a gallery, to sell and display the work of artisans from Aroostook County. Blue Moon Gallery, located inside Visions, another SACAP project, hosts several exhibits throughout the year, some of which include demonstrations.
The Blue Moon Gallery has been responsible for mounting numerous exhibits since it opened in 2004. It showcases the work of gifted artists and artisans who use various mediums to express themselves in unique ways.
Solo-artist exhibits, workshops, cooperative efforts and demonstrations have offered the public an opportunity to experience and view distinctive interpretations of the world through photography, weaving, painting, watercolor, drawings and mixed media.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of more than 30 volunteers, one part-time paid staff person, artists and donors, the community can take part in an exciting chance to look beyond the everyday boundaries of time and place.
Knowledgeable, courteous and dedicated volunteers have helped to ensure the gallery’s future. Sales from the Blue Moon and Visions Gallery support art education and artists who are a vital link in the life of the community.
The changing window displays only hint at collaborative efforts to present the rural beauty of northern Maine and the visionary aspirations of neighbors, residents and friends.  SACAP fosters a flourishing arts community in Northern Maine.
SACAP is open Tuesday-Friday, 12-5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; and, by appointment for special showings. For more information, visit: www.sacap.us or call 532-9119.
