The New You, a full service hair salon and fitness center is owned by Chandra Campbell and located on 70 Bangor St. in Houlton.
A resident of Danforth, Campbell, a hairdresser for 24 years, has operated a hair salon from her home for the last 17 years. She plants to continue cutting hair in that area on Saturdays only.
Assisting Campbell is Tara Day, Chelsea Ledger, Ellie Hagerman, Mikayla Lowell, and recent addition Debbie Sanderson, a veteran in the professional field.
Tara Day has been a cosmetologist for about five years. Although Day takes great interest in all aspects of hairdressing and strives to provide the clients with the utmost service, nail services have become her passion.
Chelsea Ledger was a new cosmetologist when the salon first opened, but she now has two years of gaining skills and knowledge and hopes to provide clients with relaxing pedicures as well as the benefits of facials.
Ellie Hagerman has been a licensed masseuse for six years. She is now offering facials, which also can be in addition to her massages. Hagerman will be completing a nail course this fall, but is now a nail technician in training in the salon.
Also, Mikayla Lowell has been a nail technician in training since March and will also be completing a nail class this fall.
Debbie Sanderson, a native to Houlton and resides in Bangor, has 25-plus years of experience and enjoys all parts of being a hairstylist, especially a happy client, which ‘makes my job the best,’ she said.
‘The New You’ is roughly 3,500 square feet and features four stations for hair, as well as private rooms for manicures/pedicures, two tanning beds and massage.
The fitness center is located on the lower level with a separate entrance. It features a variety of cardiovascular pieces of equipment, which utilizes a circuit training technique.
“We also have treadmills, stationary bikes, elipticals and ab machines,” Campbell said. “We think the gym and massage therapy goes hand and hand together.”
Memberships are required for the fitness center, with the monthly rate at $35 or $4 per day.
