Thanks to a gift from the Rockabema Lodge IOOF 78, work will continue on the Cary Library original Carnegie building entrance consisting of repairing the granite stairs and sidewalls. This final step in the preservation work on the granite exterior of the Cary Library will finish improvements to the appearance of this cherished Houlton landmark.
Although the cleaning and re-pointing of the granite steps and sidewalls is not a structural issue, Almon “Tiny” Hemore heard of the library’s need for funding and presented a grant application to the Rockabema Lodge Noble Grand, Randy Lincoln, who recognized the importance in helping preserve the library as an attractive and welcoming asset to the community.
The building has its original slate roof and is in outstanding condition, considering its age. Work will consist of removing caulking and loose mortar and re-pointing the joints with a final cleaning. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows, better known as the Rockabema Lodge IOOF 78 of Houlton, has a mission to do good works and improve lives for the Houlton community. Thanks to their gift, the necessary work to our children’s library will be complete.
