To the editor:
As the communities of Oakfield, Island Falls and Houlton attempt to come to grips with and cope with the tragic deaths and destruction for which my son now is charged, no words can express the pain and sorrow I feel for the Kitchen and Pratt families. I know that I speak for my entire family in extending our deepest and sincerest sympathies to them.
I had known Mike since I was a young boy, as my father had his vehicles serviced at Kitchen’s garage, as did I later on. He was a wonderful, good man. I did not know Heidi as well, but my daughter and her family once owned the house next door to them and they were friends with Mike and Heidi. My son-in-law Jaime is from the Oakfield area and many of his relatives live there. We own a seasonal home there as well. Our grief and sadness for them is intense, as they are our friends and neighbors as well.
We all appreciate the love, thoughts and prayers that have been extended to the victims’ families, as well as ours. Please continue to do so, as we all have a long road ahead.
