A banquet was held Oct. 13, at the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville, to honor inductees to the Maine Sports Legends Hall of Honors and to recognize recipients of the 2013 Maine Sports Legends Scholar Athletes scholarships.
Murray Putnam, longtime athlete, educator, coach, assistant principal, and athletic director in the southern Aroostook area was one of the honorees. Kathleen Mazzuchelli, longtime athlete, referee and recreational director in Caribou, was another honoree from Aroostook County. Ben Paradis, longtime athlete, educator and coach in the northern Aroostook area, was a third honoree.

HONORED — Inductees into the Maine Sports Legends Hall of Fame and 2013 Maine Sports Legends Scholar-Athletes were honored Oct. 13 in Waterville. Nicholas Lunn of Hodgdon was the male Scholar-Athlete winner from the northern region, and Carla Halvorson of Easton was the female scholarship winner. Both Lunn and Halvorson were the state winners of the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, a first for Aroostook County. Besides being top athletes lettering in multiple varsity sports, they each were valedictorian of their graduating classes. They were both actively involved in school leadership, community service and their local churches. They also were recipients of the Butch Shaw Sportsmanship award. Halvorson set scoring records in soccer for Easton High School. Lunn has been actively involved in the musical arts being selected to All-state and All Aroostook.
