HOULTON & PRESQUE ISLE – Corliss Louisa (Cates) Palm, 89, died peacefully October 31, 2013, at The Aroostook Medical Center. She was born July 26, 1924, in Houlton, the daughter of Gilbert and Pauline (Connolly) Cates.
Corliss grew up in Houlton and graduated from Houlton High School in 1941. She met the love of her life, Bob, when he boarded at her family home. Bob and Corliss married October 14, 1942. They made their home in Houlton. They had two sons, Bob and Dick. Corliss was a stay-at-home mom and loved doing daycare for many years for local families.
She also had a second family – her church family. Corliss had a deep and unwavering faith. Corliss was very active in the First Baptist Church. She was past president of American Baptist Women (ABW), member of the choir, member of the True Blue Circle, Missions Committee, and was very involved in the ABW’s annual Christmas bazaar. She was always quick to volunteer for any church activity.
One of her great joys was playing cards with her friends in Houlton. After she moved to Presque Isle in 2009 to be closer to family, she developed a new set of card playing friends. Corliss also enjoyed crossword puzzles, and reading.
Corliss was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Bob; her sister, Mildred; and her brother, Bob Hull. She is survived by her sons, Bob and his wife, Pam, and Dick and his wife, Cheryl; grandchildren, Hillary (Palm) Lisnik and husband, Eric, Greg Palm, and Jonathan Adams; and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Megan Lisnik, Delilah Palm, and Eloise Adams.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church on Monday, November 25 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Choir Loft Renovation Program or to purchase music for the choir at the First Baptist Church, c/o Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park Street, Houlton 04730.
