James, Francis “Smokey”, 81, November 4, 2013. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home.
ISLAND FALLS – Francis “Smokey” James, 81, died November 4, 2013, in Houlton, surrounded by his wife and daughters. As Dad always said,” cause of death – he quit breathing”. Smokey is now at rest with his son John. Smokey was born May 21, 1932, in Princeton, the son of Merton and Viola (Albert) James.
Smokey had fun in his life by hunting, fishing and golfing, but especially enjoyed time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Scraggly Lake, Pleasant Pond and Florida are places where wonderful memories were made and the stories will be told for generations. Smokey enjoyed owning his own business, “James Oil” and his friendship with his customers in the Oakfield/Island Falls area.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Debra Dwyer and her husband Paul, Barbara Barrows and her husband, Paul, Kellie James and Marla. “Pups” or “Papa” was a very special grandfather to Clayton, Joshua Dwyer and his wife, Audra, Jessica and her husband, Danny; and great-grandfather to Daniel, Patrick, Devin and Elliot.
Special thanks to the staff at Madigan Estates for their wonderful care. Per Smokey’s request, there will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the American Legion “Memorial Fund”, c/o Kerry Bartlett, 221 Thompson Settlement Road, Oakfield, ME 04763.
