CONTROLS — Mikealah Tracy fields the ball during a game this fall at UMPI. She earned All-Freshman Team honors.
Mikealah Tracy of Houlton and now a student at the University of Maine-Presque Isle was named to the 2013 Great South Athletic Conference (GSAC) Women’s Soccer All-Freshman Team.
In 17 games, Tracy scored two of the team’s 18 goals on the season and was one of the more explosive athletes on the field for the Owls. Playing the back position in a defensive-minded system, her impact increased greatly as she became more accustomed to the college game. Twenty-three of Tracy’s 29 shots on the season came in the last 10 games of the season and she scored her first collegiate goal of her career to tie Fisher college in the last minutes of regulation before UMPI would claim the 3-2 win in overtime.
“Mikealah is a great young lady, technically gifted and very deserving of this award,” said UMPI head coach Trevor Parent. “We are expecting big things from this freshman class, in the classroom and out, and Mikealah is a huge part of our future.”
The Owls finished 5-11-1 with a young, rebuilding team that qualified for the GSAC tournament with a 5th-place seed. The team was dominated by freshmen, with only one senior and 11 underclassmen on a roster of 14.
