PRESQUE ISLE — The Maine Potato Board is encouraging families across the state to make sure Maine potatoes are on their Thanksgiving tables this year. Making Maine potatoes part of the meal supports local farmers and growers in the state.
Whether serving a traditional roast turkey or something else, potatoes remain a foundational staple of the Thanksgiving table. Smashed, mashed, baked, boiled or roasted, Maine potatoes deliver high quality flavor and consistency thanks to the hard work and dedication of Maine potato farmers.
“Putting Maine potatoes on your Thanksgiving table is a great way to help the agricultural industry here in Maine, as well as directly support the hardworking Maine farmers who ensure that those potatoes are of the finest quality,” said Don Flannery, executive director of the Maine Potato Board.
When shopping for potatoes, look for the red, white and blue Maine Quality Trademark. This trademark is a guarantee that the contents are only the highest quality. In fact, before those potatoes can bear that trademark, they are inspected and pass requirements stricter than the United States Department of Agriculture’s U.S. No. 1 grade.
