HOULTON — A long-standing tradition at Houlton Southside School continues this year as the annual Holiday Hoopla shopping event has been scheduled for Wednesday (today), from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the school.

A fundraiser for Houlton Southside School, the money generated from this sale is used for anything from buying clothes for needy students, to funding for arts and the After School Program.
Items range in price from $1 to $10 and all purchases will be wrapped. Sandy Candy, “Smencils,” “Blinky Teeth” and scented bookmarks are among the many items available for sale.
Parents are not allowed in the gymnasium while their child is shopping so that gifts will be a surprise. Sixth-graders serve as elves and show younger children where to go and help them with their shopping decisions.
While the children are shopping, there is a silent auction in the cafeteria for the adults.
Hot dogs, popcorn and water will be available for sale and entertainment by the school band, and occasionally children with their parents, will be offered on the stage in the cafeteria.
Other projects on the evening include a cookie-decorating station in one of the classrooms where students can put frosting and sprinkles on pre-made sugar cookies.
Others rooms feature an art project, temporary tattoo station and in another, Santa will be available for children to have their picture taken with.
In the library, a holiday movie will be playing for children who want to stay and watch.
