AMITY — Two southern Aroostook County brothers are facing drug charges after the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency raided a remote hunting camp in Amity Nov. 26.
Kevin Carton, 28, and his brother, Micah Carton, 26, both of whom reside in New Limerick, were arrested and charged with manufacturing/trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (methamphetamine), which is a Class B felony, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesperson for the Maine State Police.
The MDEA’s Clandestine Drug Laboratory Enforcement Team responded to the remote hunting camp in Amity on a tip of a suspected meth lab in operation. The bust marks the 18th meth lab processed this year, which is an all-time record for Maine. The previous record was 13, set in 2012.
MDEA Commander Peter Arno said Maine State Police trooper Jared Sylvia received information about the suspected meth lab in a remote camp off the Estabrook Road. Sylvia responded and found two young men inside cooking the ingredients to methamphetamine. Trooper Sylvia is familiar with meth labs as he is part of drug laboratory enforcement team.
Following the arrests, law enforcement officers secured the camp by dismantling the lab, once the search warrant was issued.
The Cartons are related to the camp owner, who had no knowledge of the drug activity, McCausland said.
