Houlton Council of Catholic Women met in the parish center of St. Mary of the Visitation Church Monday, December 2 at 6 p.m. Moderator David Raymond was present besides members and guest Bonnie Reynolds of Amity.
President Lynette Dobbs opened the meeting and led the usual prayers recited by all. Mary Grant gave the treasurer’s report, Charlene Tabb, the secretary’s minutes of the last meeting. Lois Downing read several letters, as corresponding secretary.
A Christmas wreath was on display. The wreath was purchased by our vice president, Jane Mitchell and decorated by Mary Grant with $1 bills. Tickets on the wreath to be sold at the Christmas Fair were available by Grant and Mitchell sold them earlier. It was noted that Yvonne Blake sold many tickets to her friends at Lee Apartments where she is a tenant.
A discussion on the annual Giving Tree took place. Several checks were in the mail to the fuel fund, Houilton’s Cary Library and St. Mary’s library. Houlton Council of Catholic Women will sponsor the advertisement in the weekly bulletin.
B. Walsh from Maine Diocesan Council of Catholic Women asked our leader for information to be presented December 7 at Women’s Conference in Portland. Birthdays in December are: Yvonne Blake, Jane Stile and Bunny Tidd. Happy Birthday to all.
After the meeting we had a luncheon, with the December committee in charge. The center was decorated with red/green place mats, statues, Christmas colors and other materials. Then the ladies and Fr. Raymond all sat in a circle while Jane Stile read a story containing the words left and right. Every time the words were said each person would pass a wrapped gift to left or right. It was a fun game.
After the meeting prayers were offered by members; Fr. Raymond offered the prayer before meals. The ladies will next meet on Jan. 6.
