Open house to be held at Park Family Tree Farm

    PRESQUE ISLE – Edith and Laurence Park, 2008 Maine Tree Farmers of the Year, will hold an open house from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Park Family Tree Farm, located at 32 Echo Lake Road in Presque Isle.     Come for a day of touring and seeing what tree farming is all about.
    The event will include yard displays, homemade band-saw mill and solar dry kiln, solar water heater, hardwood thinning – 17 years growth record, 35 to 50 year softwood plantations, softwood thinning and pruning, measuring basal area as a management tool, wildlife management, recreation and multi-use trails, trail care, sustainable forestry management, quiz display – “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?” and firewood.
    The open house is sponsored by the Maine Tree Farm Committee.
