Houlton Rec offers youth vacation programs

The Houlton Recreation Department is currently accepting registrations for the following programs and events.  To register, call 532-1310.
Friday game night for teens in grades 7-10. This will be held on Friday, Dec. 27 from 7-9 p.m. This free activity will have a variety of video game tournaments, music, game room and gym use and refreshments. There will be drawings throughout the evening for the youth. Bring your friends and hang out at the rec renter during your school vacation break.

Red Cross Babysitters Course for youth between the ages of 11-15 years. This will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gentle Memorial Building. This class is limited to 12 participants and a minimum of six must be signed up for the course to be held. Here is a great chance to get the training and knowledge needed to take care of infants and toddlers. Cost for the day long training is $50.
Sneakin N’ Science Program for ages 7-12 years will be held on Monday, Dec. 30 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Gentle Memorial Building. This popular program is limited to 12 youth and cost $12 per child. Sara McQuarrie will be the instructor again. Registration is required so be sure to call soon to join this fun program.
Vacation Fun Program for grades Pre-k to 6 will be held on both Monday, Dec. 30 and Tuesday, Dec. 31 from 9-11a.m. each day. Each morning will be filled with games, crafts and snacks. Registration limits are 10 minimum/24 maximum. Cost is $5 per day per child.
Children’s Art Program is starting back up on Tuesday, Jan. 7 with Frank Sullivan as the instructor. This six-week program runs from 3-4:30 p.m. and each week the children will experience a new form of art. This is limited to 12 participants and cost $40 per child. Registration is required.
Recess Rocks is a fun comprehensive movement program for children. It is held each Wednesday from 3:30-4:15 p.m. with Yvonne Hyman as the instructor. Children who are between the ages of 5-12 are invited to attend. The six-week program cost $20 for Houlton residents/$30 for non-Houlton residents and the program is limited to 15 children. Registration is required.
MRPA/ Maine Red Claws Hot Shot Basketball Contest will start with a practice round on Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 3-4 p.m. Youth between the ages of 9-15 may participate in this event. Cost is $10 for Houlton residents/ $15 for non-Houlton residents. For more information contact the Houlton Recreation Department.
