LITTLETON, Maine — After a successful winter workshop last year, the Barenbrug guys are coming back to the County to present an “Underseeding and Cover Crops for Aroostook” discussion. The Monday, March 10, event will be held at the Meduxnekeag Ramblers Snowsled Club in Littleton from 6-8 p.m. The forage and grass seed company’s dynamic agronomist Steve Wallace will be on hand to discuss cover crops for potato farmers and their effect on soil health.
Joe Schmidlen, forage manager for the northeast will help lead the discussion and Sam Wright with the Natural Resources Conservation Service will also provide a presentation on soil health.
The event is an opportunity for crop and livestock producers to learn more about topics such as underseeding grain crops with Italian rye grasses, cover crops and legume mixes. Barenbrug has been researching and breeding plants for more than a century, focusing on grasses and legumes for animal nutrition and improved nutrient uptake for crops.
The March 10 event is free with dessert and coffee provided. The evening is made possible through Agri-Cal, Houlton, Barenbrug, and the Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District. Pre-registration appreciated but not required.
