To the editor:
It is so hard to find the right words to express how we, The Ark family, are feeling right now. On Wednesday, our hopes and dreams abruptly came to an end, we were devastated!
There were no words – only tears and grief. Two days later an amazing thing happened. Two very amazing people pulled a fundraiser together for us. It originally started out as a bake sale and snowballed into something much bigger. A silent auction, a raffle for a trip to Cancun and so much more.
These two ladies brought an entire community together to help us. We were speechless!
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard in the snow and cold weather.
Thank you to all of the businesses who donated silent auction items, and thank you to everyone who came out to support us.
Thank you most of all for believing in our mission.
I grew up in Houlton and as a child I can honestly say I had the best childhood ever. I am so proud that I grew up here and that many years later I found my way back home to Houlton. This community has wrapped its arms around us and supported us and we could ask for nothing more.
I also want to let everyone know that this has touched the hearts of people globally. We have received donations from as far away as Australia, UK, California and Utah. We thank everyone across the country for their generosity and support.
Animals play a big part in our lives. They bring us together, they comfort us and they love us unconditionally. Anyone who has never experienced this, you have no idea what you are missing.
Once again, thank you to everyone for their support and donations. Whether it be a monetary donation, or kind words and a hug, nothing has gone unnoticed and everything has touched our hearts.
We love this amazing community and we will gain our strength from you as we prepare to re-build.
