Houlton switches to Town Manager system — Houlton changed a form of government of more than 100 years standing here Monday and Tuesday when, under the Town Manager system recently adopted, seven councilors instead of three selectmen were elected to preside over the administration of the town’s affairs. The following were chosen to the council: Berlin H. Brown and T. V. Holdaway, Wilbert E. Carr and Dr. Arthur T. Whitney, W. Scott Brown, James B. Callnan and Albert G. Merritt. The first and most important duty of the council will be to employ a Town Manager from among the four who have thus far applied for the position.
Nurse Belyea is local celebrity — Friends here of Emma Belyea, who graduated from Aroostook Hospital Training School, will be interested to learn that her picture recently appeared in the Hartford Courant, holding a foundling brought to the Rockville City Hospital where she is assistant superintendent. The eight-pound month-old boy was found wrapped snugly in blankets by a truck driver, in the cab of his truck. The nurse, now Emma Belyea West, is sister of Helen Niles, local beautician, and niece of Ralph Armstrong, Island Falls, and of O. G. Armstrong, Oakfield.
