To kick off a unit on speech writing, third grade students thought about issues around the school that they wanted to address and hopefully make a change. Because of the amount of snow this year, the edge of the playground has a huge snow bank.
Although it is perfect for playing on, some people had concerns about kids playing on it. Third grade decided to write a speech together to address the issue. They invited Mrs. Wiley into the classroom to present their speech. Students are learning how to consider their audience, how to select compelling reasons that will appeal to their audience, and that they can be a voice for change. Look around your school and community. Do you see something that makes you think, “It’s not fair!” or “I think people should notice this!” You can be a voice for change, too!
