HODGDON, Maine — A Hodgdon woman escaped serious injury Monday evening when she became pinned after a porch roof collapsed.
According to Rick Tidd of the Hodgdon Fire Department, firefighters were called to the home of Kevin and Gina Parent on Westford Hill Road at about 11 p.m. Monday evening for a report of a collapsed roof with a person trapped.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the Parents’ adult daughter, Melinda, trapped by debris on the porch. The Parents’ home and porch had a metal roof, Tidd said, but the weight of snow coming off the house portion onto the porch caused the structure to buckle.
“There was excessive ice and snow built up on the roof and when it fell onto the porch, it (the porch) came down,” Tidd said.
Houlton Ambulance and the “Team 100” accident response team was called to assist the Hodgdon Fire Department.
Tidd said Melinda Parent was able to walk to the ambulance, and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
“This time of year, the snow gets real heavy with the melting and re-freezing,” Tidd said.
