The high school sports season has finally started, as the weather begins to cooperate. There were several games played last week, with the game recaps following.
Hodgdon 0, Houlton 10 — On Saturday in Houlton, the Shiretowners’ right-hander Ryan Dee fired a one-hitter, while striking out three to shutout the Hawks.
Ethan Bouchard, Jake Drew and Billy Phillips each had two hits, while Bouchard and Phillips also drove in three runs.
Tyler Sherman reached Dee for the one Hodgdon hit.
In other Houlton games, the Shires defeated Mattanawcook 15-10 on Monday and fell to Caribou, 14-4, last Wednesday in Caribou.
Hodgdon 11, Houlton 14 — In girls action Saturday in Houlton, the Lady Shires pulled by Hodgdon behind Emma Drew’s three hits, with Emma Gallop and Shanna Porter each collecting two hits. Pitching Houlton to the win were Victoria Holmes and Emma Peterson.
For Hodgdon, Rachel Harmon, Hannah Sherman and Samantha Palmer each got a hit.
Houlton 12, Caribou 13 — Last Wednesday in Caribou, the Vikings squeaked by the visitors.
The Lady Shires led 7-0 to start the game, but Caribou answered back with six runs in the second and were able to outscore Houlton 5-1 in the last two innings of the game for the win.
Caribou’s Rachel Soucy hit an inside-the-park two-run homer and double, while Maddie Doucette posted three hits and three runs. Megan Thornton, Morgan Outing and Adrianna Bither all collected two hits as well.
Houlton was led offensively by Porter and Elizabeth Ward. Porter had a double and single, while Ward had a double in the sixth inning and scored her team’s only run after the fourth inning.
No score or highlights were recorded for Houlton’s game against Mattanawcook Academy.
SACS 11, Hodgdon 1 — Monday in Hodgdon, the Southern Aroostook boys scored nine runs over the last three innings to take the win.
Will McGary and Trent Cullinan each recorded a double and single for the Warriors, while Gage Lefay doubled.
For Hodgdon, Ethan Fink singled twice, while Sherman added an RBI-single.
SACS 16, Hodgdon 2 — Last Friday in Dyer Brook, the Warriors picked up a lopsided win over Hodgdon behind Josh Perrin and Cody Lassonde, who each had three RBI’s. Perrin tripled and singled while Lassonde had two doubles. Austin White added a single and a double.
For Hodgdon, Blake Woods, Fink and Dillon Buzzell each singled.
Washburn 3, Hodgdon 2 — At Hodgdon last Tuesday, the Beavers came from behind to steal the win.
Hodgdon’s Sherman had two singles.
SACS 9, Hodgdon 11 — On Monday in Hodgdon, Jamie Theriault had 10 strikeouts to lead the Lady Hawks past Southern Aroostook for the victory.
Jessi Tracy paced the offense with a homer and two singles, with Hannah Sherman hitting four singles and Harmon and Tianna McEwen each doubled and singled.
Cassie Lyons and Marissa Boulier each singled twice for SACS, while Kennedi Smith tripled.
Hodgdon was defeated by Washburn last Tuesday, 24-15.
SACS 9, Katahdin 10 — On Saturday, Katahdin took a 10-6 lead in the fourth to hold SACS off.
Kelsey Hamm and Sophie Vetter each doubled and singled with Vetter adding two RBIs. Bailey Moody-Kay singled twice and knocked in two runs.
For SACS, Mataya Hartin led the offense with a home run and two doubles with three RBIs. Jess Nye singled three times.
Hodgdon 8, SACS 28 — Last Friday in Dyer Brook, the Lady Warriors broke the game open with a 20-run second inning.
Seniors Mataya Hartin and Sable Altvater each hit home runs, while Hartin also singled twice and drove in five runs. Altvater doubled twice and brought in four runs. Cassidy Lyons and Cheyenne Dawes each singled twice.
For Hodgdon, Tracy tripled and singled. Theriault hit two singles and Sherman and Christine Wallace each singled.
EG/GHCA 1, Shead 7 — Five Shead pitchers combined on a one-hitter against visiting EG/GHCA, as
Jim Shurrman singled to break up the no-hitter for East Grand/GHCA and Logan Crone scored the run.
EG/GHCA 18, Shead 4 — Last Tuesday in Woodland, Chelsea Winiarski singled twice for two RBIs, while Allie McEwen had three singles with an RBI for the cooperative GHCA/Vikings.
